Yesterday was week 10 in the adult child league that my daughter and I are in. I have never bowled on a lane that was that heavy with oil. I had absolutely no hook at all. It was like I was bowling with a straight ball. I ended up moving in to the center mark on the floor just so I had a chance at hitting the head pin. I bowled a 161-157, which is far below my average of 179 in the league. We are quickly tumbling in the standings, but the league is really just for fun anyway.
Well, my latest games have been hit or miss, or so it seems. Last Wednesday, I got in three quick games for a practice session, and did decent. I had games of 177-202-191 for a decent series of 570, my third highest ever.
Then yesterday, I go into my first league game and toss a freakin' 138!! I left 4 open frames in a row to start out, and that pretty much doomed me. I finished that game strong though, with three strikes in a row. The second game of the league was a 177, which was mildly better but didn't do much for my league average which nose dived by three pins plus yesterday. Now my league average is 176. My goal is a league average of 180 so with three weeks left in this league, I need to put together a few games in the 180s or 190s with a few 200s plus thrown in for good measure.
Anyway, for the heck of it, I threw a third game to see if I could get my game back. I threw the ball much better in this game, and finished up with a 201. I had no open frames at all in this game, until the very last ball. I just missed dropping the final pin. Hopefully, that form will stay with me next weekend, so I can do that again. Oh well.
League this week was a rather dissapointing affair. I started out okay when I rolled a 180 for the opening game, but then I tanked it in the second game and threw a 158, my lowest league game so far. I rolled only a 164 average for the league which dropped my overall average a little bit to only 180. I really hope that I can find my groove and finish out the next 4 weeks a little better. The last four weeks have been poor at best.
My daughter on the other hand started very strong. She threw a 98 in the first game, but also sort of tanked the second game, ending up throwing only a 79 in the second game. Her scores were good enough to raise her average a little bit for the league, so I am happy with that.
Week number 7 yielded better results today. For the two games I threw for the league, I tossed a 169-206 for a 187.5 average. For my third game after the league, I threw a 207 for a 582 series. My series average was 194. This is my second highest series ever.
The only complaints I would make is the alarming number of ringing 7s that I left myself. At one point, I had three in a row during the 1st game. My spare pickup percentage was also rather poor, as I missed a pair of 7 pin shots in the first game. One went left just into the gutter, and the other barely missed it to the right.
I seemed to get things under control in the second game because I had no open frames during that game, and only 1 open in the final one. The ball was moving quite nicely for me. I found the pocket more that 2/3 of the time, but again was just a bit unlucky on a few of them. However, I have to say that I was satisfied with my performance.
The best part of the day was hearing that my house is definitely going to be starting up a PBA experience league in early to mid June. I have already begun to make plans for that league. I can't wait to be in an all mens league so I can see for myself how I rate against other guys.
I feel like I am starting to fall into a mini slump or something. On Sunday, I bowled another league series which was below my average for the league. I threw a 156-178 for an average of 167. This lowered my league average by about 3 pins, but I again managed to raise my overall average by .3 pins. I know that this sounds low, but for me, it is not too bad.
This time, my daughter and I bowled against a grandfather and his 18 yearl old granddaughter. My 5 year old didn't stand a chance against her. Keep in mind folks that this is supposed to be an adult- youth league. Why is there an 18 year old bowling with her grandfather in this sort of a league you ask? Well, I asked her, and she told me that the only reason she joined the league was because at the end of the league, she will get a Barbie bowling ball and bag!! Sounds a little crappy to me, but oh well.
Anyway, we bowl again next Sunday, and hopefully we can bowl a little better than last week.
